Disclaimer: I don't know how to run a social media server. I am not familiar with applicable federal regulations regarding such. I get that "if it's an official government server, regulations apply," but wouldn't it be LESS of a threat to have POTUS on his own federated server? Does Threads' server comply with federal requirements? Does X's server comply? What about Facebook? I don't understand what the difference is. POTUS posts publicly on social media. If POTUS uses a standalone Mastodon server to post what he is already posting on X, Facebook, and Threads, what's the threat?Facebook and X are consistently prone to hacking. A friend of mine just told me today that someone is using her identity and photo for a fake Facebook profile.
