This is a massive problem, and the main reason I haven't tried to self host a #Fediverse instance on my own again.
The first question I ask is "how do I keep #CSAM off the instance" and nobody can answer that question.

Moin, I'm Jens, heading into the #Fediverse from #Hamburg, Germany. My usual short biography tries to summarise me as "a music lover, #vinyl enthusiast, guitar player, street #photographer, #whisky maniac and caffeine junkie", and I think that is still valid, albeit not complete.
I currently earn my money as a software #engineering lead, but have been seen working as an administrator, developer, agile coach and project manager before.

Direct messages (DMs) on #Mastodon / #ActivityPub / the #fediverse are not end-to-end encrypted (#e2ee) and you should never include sensitive/private information in them.
Until they are e2ee, this is all we should be telling people. Anything else is irresponsible and could cause vulnerable people harm.
Specifically, it doesn鈥檛 matter:
- if your instance admin is ethical or not
- whether Elon Musk can read DMs easier on Twitter
- etc.It鈥檚 not end-to-end encrypted. It鈥檚 not private. End of.

Yes, we are happy to see a #fediverse instance embracing #I2P, its called #Epicyon and it doesn't require Javascript.* All we need are more people running servers! More information is available at libreserver.org

Maybe it's time websites like #ResearchGate enable us to add other contacts to our profiles? The "Twitter" option doesn't even allow for other URLs (e.g., to a #Mastodon profile).
With all the problems over on the #birdsite, which is now not even accessible without an account, this seems like a strange limitation to me. Please change!
