    Running now #FreeBSD 14-2-RELEASE.

    Boot console blacked out. After some search I found the solution:

    # pkg remove drm-61-kmod
    # pkg install drm-515-kmod

    sizeof != strlen

    Now that we know how to use gdb(1), we use it to help us understand a common mistake made when programming in C: misunderstanding the unary 'sizeof' operator, which returns the _storage size of an expression or a data type_, not the length of a string or size of a dynamic buffer.

    (This ultimately lead me to write the 'sizeof' manual page now included in #FreeBSD: https://man.freebsd.org/cgi/man.cgi?query=sizeof&apropos=0&sektion=0&manpath=FreeBSD+14.1-RELEASE+and+Ports&arch=default&format=html )

    Side-quest: IPC Buffer Sizes

    In our discussion of IPC, we noticed that each form must use some sort of buffer. But what is the actual size of those buffers? Is it the same across #NetBSD, #Linux, #FreeBSD and other Unix versions?

    I just tried #FreeBSD 14.2-BETA1 to use #WiFi on 6 YEARS OLD ThinkPad T480 from 2018 - and it does NOT work - Intel AX210 card.

    Yes - #FreeBSD is really fucked up when it comes to WiFi.

    This one below is still really and painfully relevant :(

      FreeBSD is an operating system used to power modern servers, desktops, and embedded platforms.
    2. FreeBSD
      FreeBSD is a free and open-source Unix-like operating system descended from the Berkeley Software Distribution (BSD). The first version of FreeBSD was released in 1993 developed from 386BSD and the current version runs on x86, ARM, PowerPC and RISC-V processors. The project is supported and promoted by the FreeBSD Foundation. FreeBSD maintains a complete system, delivering a kernel, device drivers, userland utilities, and documentation, as opposed to Linux only delivering a kernel and drivers, and relying on third-parties like GNU for system software. The FreeBSD source code is generally released under a permissive BSD license, as opposed to the copyleft GPL used by Linux. The FreeBSD project includes a security team overseeing all software shipped in the base distribution. A wide range of additional third-party applications may be installed from binary packages using the pkg package management system or from source via FreeBSD Ports, or by manually compiling source code. As of 2005, FreeBSD was the most popular open-source BSD operating system, accounting for more than three-quarters of all installed and permissively licensed...
