Sounds like you need to mix the solutions from 1) and 3).

You'll probably have to enable GOMODULES111, as well as cross compile it on a regular x64 machine.

Surely, someone must be offering packages for the Pi, though?

Nope, RAID-6 with 6 drives. So 4 spare ports is already calculated with the redundant disks in mind.

I guess that would be an option indeed. Still need a box with four spare SATA ports, which I don't have readily available at the moment.
