YouTube is starting to ban videos by lefty creators and people think this is somehow a good argument against hate speech laws?
Last time I checked YouTube wasn't a state, thankfully.

No wait, some of them even think free software is apolitical or whatever.I'm starting to think some of these people have no clue what they are talking about and simply adjust the narrative to whatever suits them best. :thaenkin:

This one is called 'Spring' and will release in just two days online!
Was a blast to follow its development through the weekly production logs and updates on the Blender Cloud.Video credit goes to Francesco Siddi.

hay (hay@mastodon.starrevolution.org)'s status on Sunday, 10-Mar-2019 09:51:10 UTC hay Asking the question of "Why can I block accounts but not instances?" is pretty straight forward and a legitimate one.
Responses like "You're on a social network, everything you post as public is public - what did you expect?" is condescending and deliberately missing the point.

And I thought we might have trouble finding the most condescending, bad-faith statement ever. -
hay (hay@mastodon.starrevolution.org)'s status on Tuesday, 05-Mar-2019 13:01:12 UTC hay Please stop trying to build "no fuck ups allowed" online spaces or pretend that that is something even remotely achievable.
That doesn't mean you should stop moderating or having rules. But please recognise that we have flaws and exist within a system where we are often facing situations beyond our control.
Humans have the capacity for growth and we aren't solely responsible for everything that we do. -

Please keep that in mind when you go on your next tirade trashing centralised software services.

hay (hay@mastodon.starrevolution.org)'s status on Monday, 10-Dec-2018 15:57:17 UTC hay Some people here seem to genuinely think that the Fediverse can win (read: replace all centralised social networks) without it becoming everything we despise from places like Twitter & Co.
Do you just expect people to come here without companies taking note?
Do you expect them to just go away when we block them on our instances?
Do you expect them not to set up their own online space where they are allowed to flourish and take over the federated network?Twitter isn't your enemy, capitalism is.

But unfortunately as the developer of the most used Fediverse software, there is nothing I can do I'm afraid. -
hay (hay@mastodon.starrevolution.org)'s status on Thursday, 06-Sep-2018 18:18:56 UTC hay Free Software is good but on its own isn't enough.
When you look at the definition of Free Software you will notice how it is very programmer centric in its sense of freedom. Those who can't program and don't have the time to acquire the skill are directly excluded from most of the freedom we associate with Free Software.
The only freedom they have is to run a free program and redistribute it without restriction. If your software could be useful to non-technical people, make sure they still have access to the participatory part of Software Freedom.
Write accessible documentation.
Provide ways for non-technical people to contribute to your project.
And most importantly: Listen to the feedback of non-technical users equally, if not more than that of technical people.

hay (hay@mastodon.starrevolution.org)'s status on Tuesday, 28-Aug-2018 21:05:53 UTC hay Hi, my name is Johannes!
I'm a non-binary ace studying computer science, but I'm also highly interested in the social sciences.
Politically I lean towards libertarian socialism and consider myself a humanist.Hobby wise I contribute and maintain free software, I do photography from time to time, I speedrun and collect video game soundtracks.
I'll post a lot about politics and technology and how the two intersect. When I'm on another nerdic outburst of mine - you'll see that here too. If you are interested in my gaming stuff, I have a dedicated account for that: @hay.
