I just got a message on LinkedIn recruiting for Amazon Web Services at Dublin. This was my reply:

"Thank you for your message! I am glad to hear that you find my profile interesting, and Dublin would be a great place to work at, but I have to say that I don't see myself working for an Amazon subsidiary. Amazon's values and mine are too far apart for that, unfortunately."

It did feel cool to be approached by AWS, but nope, I won't contribute to their quest for world domination.

Next week Sunday (May 19th) there will be protest marches all across Europe, calling for a Europe for everyone, without the ultra-conservative nationalists and right-wing populists that are currently gaining hold all across the EU.

It's absolutely scary how tight a grip Facebook Inc. has on social lives in our societies.

I have neither a Facebook nor a WhatsApp account, but I can feel on a daily basis how small a minority I belong to.

If my wife didn't have WhatsApp either, I'd be pretty much cut off from social life, because currently the communication with our common friends happens almost exclusively there.

And ironically, even mildly anti-capitalist climate activists communicate all their activities via Facebook.

The #plasmamobile team, lead by @bshah, have just concluded their first sprint, and the progress they made there is amazing!

It's so good to see the community growing! What used to be more or less a 1.5 men project now has a proper team of volunteers as well as paid contributors, coming from KDE and other mobile FOSS communities, working on everything from hardware support to essential applications.

With that pace, an "end-user-ready" state feels within reach!

If you're thinking about going to the store and buying large amounts of fireworks soon, I'd encourage you to think twice.
Yes, fireworks are really pretty, but is that fleeting beauty worth the cost to human and animal health, to the environment and - last but not least - to your wallet?
There are so many better things you can do with that money, I know that especially people here have lots of great ideas to spend their money on.
