The thing about the "Mastodon is taking over the fediverse" narrative is that it echoes the long history of ugly narratives around women/queer people "taking over" nerd spaces and it can be weaponised in the same way. Be prepared to see dorks who didn't know what OStatus was four months ago getting up in arms about the "invasion" of "their" space.

Ultimately Mastodon's killer feature is that it's a public good that someone built because they thought it needed to exist and not a startup someone built because they wanted to get rich quick selling other people's data.
