Starting June 22nd, OONI data from #China shows the blocking of F-Droid (@fdroidorg) by means of DNS injection, where an unrelated IP address (e.g., DropBox) is returned to the client.

This technique is commonly used in China to restrict access to services.

As of today, last year, Russia started its military operation in Ukraine.

Today, in collaboration with Roskomsvoboda, we published a new report documenting how Internet censorship changed in #Russia over the last year based on OONI data analysis.

New blocks that emerged in #Russia over the last year include:

• Blocking of Russian & international human rights websites (Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International)
• Blocking of investigative journalism & news media sites
• Blocking of Instagram, SoundCloud , Patreon

Overall, OONI data analysis shows the blocking of 494 domains in #Russia.

The blocked domains fall under 28 categories, suggesting pervasive levels of internet censorship in Russia.

Many more websites are also blocked, beyond those tested.

Access to the @torproject's website was temporarily unblocked in #Russia between 15th to 28th July 2022.

Several discontinued sites have been unblocked over the last year (possibly as part of a “blocklist cleanup”).

Yesterday, 20th of September 2022, ⁦ #Iran⁩ has intensified the blocking of DoH services.

Services previously accessible are now blocked. Those previously blocked by SNI are now DNS blocked too.🧵👇

The domain name for Cloudflare DNS is now blocked by DNS, while it was previously accessible.

The canonical IP for it 1.1.1.1, remains blocked on most networks.
