This is another massive difference between #Calckey and Mastodon.

    Calckey has a Drive!

That's right, a cloud storage feature! You can store whatever you want there: photos, music, documents, Zip files, etc.

Who needs Dropbox or Onedrive when you have Calckey?

As you can see in this screenshot, I'm storing diverse media.

I’m getting real “Linux on the desktop guy” vibes from the Fediverse.

Now if you don’t mind me, I’m going to edit the DNS settings of the TXT record to my domain so I can insert the proper DID value in order to make my #Bluesky handle just so.

When will those Mastodon people realize that nobody wants decentralization? We just want pre-Elon Twitter!

And that’s why you should join me on #Bluesky, a place which will never decentralize and is exactly like pre-Elon Twitter.

Mastodon is terrible because it’s hard to join—unlike #Bluesky, a social network that is hard to join, which is great.

Why is Mastodon always so serious? The problem with you people is you never post anything for the fun of it.

If only Mastodon would follow #Bluesky’s example of posting cat pics.

Journalists are flocking to #Bluesky, and not Mastodon because Bluesky allows retweets—which Mastodon doesn’t allow.

Oh, and about hashtags, direct messages, and post edits not being available on Bluesky? Journalists don’t need them.

For Reddit alternatives on the Fediverse, I prefer #kbin over #Lemmy. Here's why:

    1. Navigation: The top navbar on /kbin seems clear and precise, while Lemmy seems noisy

    2. Posts: There's clear separation in /kbin with boxes, while Lemmy posts are not segmented and therefore bleed into each other.

    3. Discoverability: Even though /kbin is used by drastically fewer people than Lemmy, it seems easier to find people across the Fediverse who discuss topics

Should we re-brand the “rest of the Fediverse” as “Mastodon+”?

@fediversenews I don’t know how Mastodon gGmbh would feel about Calckey or Friendica being referred to as “Mastodon+”.

    But it intrigues me.

I've been a part of many social media efforts. For example, I helped build and grow Hootsuite.

But nothing compares to what's happening with https://calckey.social (and #Calckey) right now.

Right now, the growth is entirely word of mouth.

No advertising, press releases, Silicon Valley-style hype.

But last November, I told @kainoa that this could be a project that changes their life.

I'm honoured to help in whatever way that I can!

I don’t think Mastodon is “bad” for adding quotes and full text search.

In fact, I’ve been advocating that they add that for awhile.

However Mastodon cannot and should not be all things to all people. If you don’t want quoted posts and full text search, you still have a space on the Fediverse.

So will there be a fork of Mastodon without quotes and full text search?

Many people came to Mastodon because it didn’t have those features.

But now that Mastodon will have those features, those folks should have a place to call home.

Despite only being validated in February, I think Group federation has been a smashing success for the Fediverse.

I use Fediverse groups every day.

And if you’re interacting with this post, so are you.

Fediverse groups even make Mastodon that much more extensible despite Mastodon itself not officially supporting groups yet.

For what it's worth, people on #Bluesky aren't hostile to #Mastodon.

They want to read Mastodon posts.

It's incredibly sad that people on Bluesky can't talk to Mastodon and vice versa.

#Calckey is testing out post imports from Mastodon.

Which means that if you're migrating your Mastodon account to Calckey, you can take your posts with you.

While Mastodon post imports are currently in beta, it's available on calckey.social.

To access it, go to Settings > Export/Import Data.

    See screenshot.

Here @kissane’s defense of Bluesky is that a Nazi showed up and mods did something.

Yes, in that situation—because a whole lot of eyes made sure something would happen.

But Jay Graber has also said—publicly, I might add, that the Bluesky team is not equipped to moderate right now since they’re focused on building features. Therefore most moderation will be kicked over to algorithms in the meantime.

And as I’ve been showing with numerous examples last week, that doesn’t work.

Later in her post, @kissane addresses this.

But she doesn’t acknowledge that few open source projects ever see the mass uptick in users that Mastodon had, it’s developed by a small team, and Eugen has spent a lot of time putting out fires and hiring new developers.

There’s lots of “could haves” but this was the hand that Mastodon was dealt.
