#BarrenPlanet is released today! This turn-based strategy game runs in #msdos on the original #ibmpc with #cga graphics. Two mining corporations fight a series of battles to gain control of a mineral-rich but lifeless planet. Also runs in DOSBox on just about any computer or mobile device! @dosnostalgic This amazed me when I had a machine with an MDA display. I can't remember now whether it actually ran without colour or at least CGA emulation - quite a few text mode games didn't.
I'm not sure if my contribution to this #ScreenshotSaturday is technically a screenshot. Here is #barrenplanet beta version 2. In front it's running on an HP #100lx, a 1993 pocket computer running MS-DOS. Behind is a Gemini PDA, an Android clamshell computer from 2016, running the game in the Magic DOSBox emulator. #msdos#cga#gamedev
The Anarchic Kingdom is a game I released for a game jam back in 2021. For #msdos on the #ibmpc with #cga graphics (like just about everything I've done recently). Graphically inspired by the Bayeux Tapestry, it uses a nice but unusual palette (red, green, brown, with a white background instead of the usual black). I intend to do a play through and post the results on here over the coming weeks.
I've made a bit of #gamedev progress on my game Barren Planet for #msdos on the #cga#ibmpc this weekend. I've streamlined the AI's unit repair routines. And I've tidied up a couple more scenarios and added them to the campaign, so the campaign is now 50% complete!
Work on Barren Planet for #ibmpc#msdos#cga is ongoing. Today I worked on the AI player, which now identifies targets and ranks them in importance. Next task is: to allocate units to deal with those targets.
Here's a collection of screenshots for four of my games available for #msdos. All of them run on the original #ibmpc with an 8088 processor and #cga graphics. See the links in my profile for details and downloads.
Developing #retrogames for the #ibmpc of the early 1980s running #msdos and featuring #cga graphics. Turn-based strategy, puzzle and RPG! Fun in all four colours. With a fondness for Sinclair and Psion too.
