Maybe the fact that "content warnings" now mean "click for the punchline of the joke" is really a good thing: it's evidence that the Net's native culture is still strong enough to take ownership of whatever technological wrinkles come along, even those originally created by and for the Socjus colonists.

@bea sounds like it's that last point, then - the admin of the instance has to register on the list for the checkmark to appear. This is a clever, and subtle, way of signalling tribe membership.

Almon Strowger is best known for inventing the first deployed automatic telephone exchange in the late 1800s, but his main business was as an undertaker.
