News about nobel prizes seems to be mostly that for the first time in 55 years a woman won it again. That lady must be thrilled that her entire achievement has been reduced to her gender. At least with men they usually say what they got the prize for.

Mocking people who deny climate change by pointing to gravity: not a good idea. Gravity isn't accepted because a lot of scientists say so, like with climate change. It's accepted because everyone has immediate personal experience with it. Climate change on the other hand cannot be established with simple experiments, even pointing at higher temperatures is insufficient since what's meant with climate change is about humans being responsible for a changing climate rather than more high temperatures being a natural occurrence. That requires a lot of difficult data gathering and analysis and therefore in effect trust in scientists whereas gravity requires no such trust.

I get the impression that for some people the primary purpose of a social network is blocking people rather than connecting people.
-
The great support of the people for the social left is on frequent displays at protest marches but it was best demonstrated in the voting booth last November when Hillary Clinton got elected.

Anti-racism protesters converge on free speech rally.
Makes perfect sense.
Said free speech rally explicitly rejected racism and bigotry. But of course freedom of speech and right wing political opinions are not allowed.

It's interesting how a domain being in a text file on github on the accoubt of some random person is enough to convince people it is a hive of scum and villainy.

I'm hoping May's plan to strengthen her position through elections works just as well as Cameron's plan to shut up the pro-brexit part of this party through the referendum.

@elucidating There will always be trolls and crazies. But as long as it's news that someone behaved uncivilly things aren't too bad.

The most dangerous kind of defederation is where the users of the instance don't know which instances are blocked. I consider it a power grab of admins into the hearts and minds of the users by controlling who they can see and thus what they can hear.

It's amusing how there's a whole W3C working group creating a social spec and the actual fediverse simply runs on buggy implementations of incompletely documented protocols.

LastPass browser extension has major security vulnerabilities. Advice is to remove your browser extensions. Those extensions are 90% of the appeal of that password manager though.

@bobjonkman The latter. The former is allowing too much internet connectivity.
-
PSA: if it's connected to the internet and an intelligence agency is interested in you then you can safely assume it's a bug.
-
There's a pattern on the fediverse: an instance gets the community its admin cultivates.
