Tomorrow (Saturday Jan 11) at 2 PM ET (11AM PT) I'm streaming "The Unavowed", a modern point-and-click adventure by Wadjet Eye, a company that's just kept on trucking as if the Sierra bust of the 90s never happened. I've never played a Wadjet game before and I don't actually know what's going on in this game but there seems to be like urban magic and noir fashion and people standing around portals in the sky and surreal stuff, and overall I'm just super curious.
@foone OK, you're the one person I know who might know about this—
Is it possible to get a USB 5-inch floppy drive right now? If so, where? It's hard to search on Amazon because searching "5 inch floppy" gives you 3.5 inch floppy drives…
We're trying to figure out the least painful way to run some software on a Compaq Portable III that works but will no longer talk to its hard drive.
Google is trying to jam "AI" into all of their products but an interesting element of the way they integrated it into Android Messages is "Gemini" shows up as a conversation, which means it is actually possible to block and report it to Google as spam
Microsoft force-updated the "Photos" app on my Windows 10 machine to add this. I am now looking for a replacement for the Windows "Photos" app that does not have this feature.
Critical features for my purposes: No-distractions viewing of images, left and right to view the next and previous images in the directory sorted by date.
@dosnostalgic So I've thought about this one and what I concluded is that in the era the story takes place, someone would only be in Greenland if they traveled (or were transported there) for some sort of job. So the narrative I imagine is someone gets offered to be transported somewhere for work, agrees, loses or (because of bad treatment) quits the job, and now they're screwed because they're stuck in Greenland, other work is limited, and they have no way to get back to job-richer environments
Piece of advice. If you ever take the train to Kamakura. Be REALLY careful before taking an exit. If you take the wrong one (eg you want to transfer to the Enoden line and you get out on the gate opposing the Enoden boarding) JR will literally charge you 150yen to walk from one side of the station to the other lolsob
I'm going to Kamakura! They have the Ocean there and a large Buddha. (Also possibly some cool rocks and a bird that steals your food.) I have not seen the ocean since like 2018 or 2019 and the witchy parts of me are crying out in longing. A part of me has been missing.
The train ride is pretty long so I have a stretch goal, which is to answer the question: can one successfully install and configure Termux on a train?
Alright. I am on a tiny cute train, where I have a literal front seat. I have a small bag of fried dough shaped like tiny bears with various fillings. I am listening to Radiohead. I am only about 40% sure I know where this train is going. Rock on
We saw "Megalopolis" on Thursday and I did like it but I have to admit, we saw "Tetsuo: The Iron Man" (1989) tonight and in addition to having more coherent politics, it was simply a better film
Kinda interesting decisions. Hardware recreations of the Pentium and various vintage sound cards, handles various problems like ISA³ not being available on modern computers (in case you want to connect a sound card directly), can present USB kbam as PS/2 kbam, and presents an sd card as a DOS-recognizable hard drive.
¹ Not literally² ² Except it also has a literal RaspPi inside as a USB helper ³ Edit: Oops
@dosnostalgic i had it in a CD 4-pack with Journeyman Project and Indiana Jones but I never played it because at the time i defined myself as someone who Didn't Like Horror
