@switchingsocial hey, have you checked out #rustodon? it's trying to fulfill some of the same usecases as mastodon and pleroma, but is geared towards small instances (ie, you can run it on a raspberry pi) and small clients (the default webclient doesn't even need JS!)

we're also looking deeply into correctness issues around federation and privacy, and how we can give users more fine-grained control over what they see without a massively complicated UI.

also, like, federated systems don't solve ~all~ the problems, but they solve a ~bunch~..... and maybe that's enough for right now? like, incremental improvements aren't ~inherently bad~, and usually the people who are loud about them are generally... polemic about this stuff and not really tryin to Effect Change other than being ~those guys in the balcony~ in the Muppet Show

hi im helping out Archive Team right now, by running 21 machines on 21 different public IPv4 addresses, archiving 500px. because they were assholes and started pulling all the creative commons images because capitalism.

help out, maybe? every single person archiving, with even a single computer, helps. it barely uses any disk space. if you can install virtualbox, you can help.
