We had to put some restrictions on our mail service, due to spam activity, where people used #disroot accounts to send spam. Those restrictions (still fine-tuning so more info will follow) apply to bulk email sending in short periods of time.
We've conducted an investigation in the last days to find and block the spammers, and whitelist people sending legit bulk emails.
As a part of our transparency policy, we have also informed those legit users that we've been reviewing their activity.

While still enjoying our holidays - eating nice food, swimming and enjoying sun before the reality of cold, wet and windy Amsterdam slaps us in the face - we got a bit sloppy with account deletions. We will do a bulk cleanup once we are back "home", so please forgive us. The internet connection around here is very bad and we already had our share of troubleshooting and fighting spammers disturbing our fun during the last days.

Dear disrooters,

We seem to be having some issues with webmail where connection to the mail server sometimes drops. This results in people not being able to read/list their emails or being asked twice for their password.

We think we resolved the issue, but if you notice being disconnected form webmail, please let us know.

Seems like the server is running stable now and the federation with matrix.org is back to normal. \o/

Our matrix server went offline after a huge spike in memory usage occurred. This seem to affect more servers in the matrix network and the origins of that aren't clear yet. We've restarted the server this morning, and at this moment our server is catching up with the network. We will monitor the situation and see whether it was a single incident or something of a re-occurring nature.
