After one year working with free and open source software, it's time to reflect on my experiences as a #Mastodon user and translator.

Some of the GLAMs my laboratory helps don't even know how rich their collections are. For instance, cataloging all items provides us with so much metadata — they think of this as a bureaucratic process, we see that as a way to integrate collections and include Brazil in many initiatives such as #Wikidata.

It's difficult to escape from those "Brazil doesn't fund research properly and I'm disappointed in my country" arguments because honestly, they are completely true.

Good morning. 🌇 This morning in Brazil will be entirely dedicated to the next Brazil match at the World Cup. Every single service you can think of will be closed from now (8:30 AM) until 30 minutes after the end of the match (11:30 AM, I think?).

Some people are saying we should give Microsoft a chance as their policies on open-source have changed.

But I can't. Especially since só many of Brazilian governmental initiatives related to free and open source ended with great deals for them. I'm that resentful.

I'd like to remind you that Mastodon's governance has been a subject of debate for a long time. This is not a new issue — people have been presenting their suggestions for months. As a translator, I follow Mastodon's development closely to understand the context of new features and strings to translate, and I can say for sure that this is not the first conflict we have, but it's the breaking point for a lot of people.

It seems that every single capital city is in chaos but where I live nobody seems to care or be tremendously affected. 🤔

Is there any initiative that lists FOSS projects looking for volunteers for specific tasks or are there any groups with people interested in/looking for this kind of activity?
