    @pnwflaman

Thank you! This is incredibly helpful. With the lack of feedback, I was just leaning towards doing L-R since that's probably what most users will be expecting (and I also remembered they'll be able to get to the right side quickly by just back-tabbing, first thing).

Heh, you are the third consecutive person who's asked; it should be relatively easy (most of the buttons, textboxes, etc. are all stuff Tumblr has, just in a different layout) so I'll probably put it as a setting users

I always was disappointed when the accounts of projects I was excited about went dark so I'll try to keep that from happening, even with a lack of updates.

I had to reinstall my computer, yet again, so I'm going to be trying to get my dev. setup up and running once more, in the next few days. Hopefully, I should be able to get some further progress done, soon.

I had to focus on this evaporated.

Future development, going forward, may be slow but, as I mentioned, I really love this project and want to keep developing it.

So I mostly wanted to give a heads up so people knew what was going on; I may try to just post more of passing thoughts here, rather than limit things strictly to development updates, just so this account is easier for people to engage with.

I am! At least, as much as I'm able to with my current situation. Like I mentioned, development might be a tad slower but I've missed working on it and I think I can make good progress when I have lulls in the week.

Hoping to get the dev. environment resetup, this weekend.

While I've been quiet on here for half a year (so maybe it hasn't seemed like that long of a silence but it /feels/ like it's been a year), just wanted to reassure everyone this project is still in motion.

Regardless of how long it takes me to work on this, I (naturally) am very attached to this project (and, even if I wasn't, we deserve to have social media we own…) and want to see it continue developing.

Unfortunately, more health issues at home arose and my ability and the time I

    #Tumblr implement #ActivityPub, yet?

Welp; guess it's up to us.

#WebAccessibility question for any willing to help:

Attached is the general Swanye page layout; I'd structured tabbing to begin on the right side of the page on the premise that wanting to create a post, etc. would be the first things you might want available to you but, obviously, that then navigates the page right-to-left rather than left-to-right.

For users who'd most use this, is LtR (starting with the posts of the page) preferred? Figured I should probably check before too much is built…

As I mentioned (almost exactly) a month ago, I've been reworking a bunch of code to better work with the various ActivityPub implementations out there; I think it's almost done but, of course, the end result should be things work exactly as before…so not much to show off.

One adjustment I did make was to mobile; I like how who created/reblogged a post is visible as you scroll (especially for long posts) as I can remember who the originator was but I realized I couldn't, on my phone. 'Can, now.

It wouldn't benefit /me/ or my project but it would benefit many Tumblr users and, well, that's the important part, in the end; between rising COVID cases (and, now, measles! Thanks; I hate it) and unfettered capitalism and other such phenomenon, we live in times that don't consider or prioritize the health and safety of others and it seemed like Automattic might be the exception to this.

Clearly (unfortunately), no; but I /am/ glad that so many of you wound up here.

This is a post I probably should have made weeks ago but, well, life has refused to let me remain uninvolved the past few months, sadly.

With the influx of new users to the Fediverse from #Tumblr, I wanted to be a good neighbor and, at least, welcome you. When Tumblr had, first, been bought my #Automattic and there was a sort of revival going on over there, I was preoccupied with how to get attention for my alternative but, nevertheless, hopeful it might follow WordPress and become open-source.

For those who've been following this project to begin with, I'm afraid I'm still stuck in job limbo; as much as I'd like to just ignore that and work on Swanye (a possibility that anxiety, unfortunately, too easily confuses for a valid coping mechanism), I've got a family which relies on me and, therefore, makes getting employed, again, much more pressingly mandatory. I don't have any intent to abandon the project (nor desire to) but I am, sadly, constrained from the choice I'd like to make.

The space is still new and being molded but I think many who've sought out the Fediverse have done so because they were hoping for an improvement on the way corporate social media is conducted. I have high hopes for the type of inclusivity and restoration of autonomy we can create here.

There're a lot more Fediverse Tumblr clones around these days (which is great) & I'm hoping we can create blogging env.s that don't require us to so singularly rely on individuals (who may turn out to be awful).

If you're curious about the project, going through the media tab of this account generally has past development updates and, if you're curious about anything, always feel free to just shoot me said question; I may not always be timely in my response but I'd like to think I'm friendly and I do enjoy interacting with others.

I was drawn to the Fediverse because social media – like all socializing – should be something we can easily engage with/in; it should enrich us, not take something from us.

someone else take the code and develop it in a different direction?

At the end of the day, it's still me being in the position of receiving whatever's given to me; I can complain or try to live with it (or leave, entirely) but that's…pretty much it.

It's not the investment free-software is; FOSS dev. work is work anyone can use, later, without the originator.

If you're unfamiliar with it, FOSS can take a bit to see the supposed advantage but, having found the Fediverse, there's a degree of exhaustion I feel everytime I see some newer proprietary social media site claim /they're/ different and secure and respect the dignity of the individual.

And, like, cool⸮ So can I run it on my own server? If you implement a change I think is dangerous, can

Free software, by virtue of being transparent and free, means I can engage with it, extend it, write plugins for it, interact with the internals, use it like it's mine (because it is) rather than merely, always, just receive.

That's what I want to underscore, over anything else.

How you engage with it is fundamentally different; and that's something proprietary works can never offer.

In lieu of #Tumblr being talked about again, just wanted to let everyone know I'm still around.

Have had to slow my development as the family caught COVID back in August and I was let go from my job shortly after that so I've been focusing on finding new employment.

But I have no expectations of stopping work on Swanye, esp. once I find a job again.

Just wanted an update so it isn't just silence; this account continues to periodically get followers and I'm always glad people are interested!
