For (2), I hold the opposite belief, and here's why:

@f4grx Re-reading this thread, your main objections to AI were:

1. "It is unethical, promoted by big businesses, does not care of anything, tells lies, generates contents intended to fool humans, while stealing and plagiarizing original artworks from artists."

2. "I believe computers lack what can make human intelligence possible, in a very fundamental way"

Let me try to address each one separately, starting from the second, which is more fundamental.

In time, most of the problems with AI chatbots will be solved or mitigated. Its hard to predict how long it will take and what it will look like, but the trend is clear if you've been testing ChatGPT for some time.

I heard that Apple and Google pulled out resources from #clang to focus respectively on Swift and... what was it called... Carbon? I wish them the same blazing success of Google Plus. 🤦

But why would you mind? I'm writing this toot knowing that it will be indexed by search engines, read by humans, and perhaps end up in the training corpus of future AI models.

That's what *public* content means to me, and I think it's awesome that the Internet makes it easily accessible to everyone, for any purpose.

@skepteis Just yesterday, I signed up for ChatGPT Plus for $20.

I have no need for it; I just wanted to experience the new capabilities of GPT-4 first hand, and I think it's well worth the price of a pizza.

In yesterday's GPT-4 AMA, #ChatGPT is asked to "Summarize the Lord of the Rings trilogy with each word using each letter of the alphabet in sequence, without repeating any letters.

It does so better than I ever could, then adds: "Note: This constraint is extremely difficult, so the summary may not be as coherent as a regular summary."

But one thing I love about Gmail is the conversation view. There's a plugin for Thunderbird, but it keeps breaking in betas. Conversations really ought to be a buil-in feature in any email client.

As you can see from my screenshot, I removed that big blue "New Message" button, because I can just use Ctrl+N.

Thank you @thunderbird for retaining just enough customizability for power users while making the UI more appealing to the "touchscreen generation".

I updated my #Thunderbird Beta, and was welcomed by the redesigned navigation bar, part of the Supernova roadmap.

I quite like the UI changes so far, well done @thunderbird 👍
