É uma pena que muitos "ativistas do Movimento Software Livre" prefiram usar ferramentas não livres em detrimento a ferramentas livres, como Riot, por exemplo.
Educamos pelo exemplo. -

Zuck appears to be experiencing another privacy epiphany. In "A Privacy-Focused Vision for Social Networking" he describes how he plans to revamp chat for ubiquitous e2ee and ephemerality of data, focusing more on chat as the primary mode of interaction on Facebook.
In the part about encryption he also described what is usually called "lawful intercept" and so what this probably means is an implementation of the ghost listener scenario described by GCHQ in which an extra hidden participant is silently added to the chat, unknown to the users.
He also describes the location of data being important, but only in terms of decisions about where to build data centers.
Although it's a long post all it really describes is something similar to the state of XMPP today, but without any onion routing possibility and non-federated with Zuck still very much in control of the data. -

> After a long disclosure process we release #SMoTherSpectre, a transient execution attack that uses port contention as a side channel (instead of caches) to leak register/memory data. Details: http://nebelwelt.net/blog/20190306-SMoTherSpectre.html paper: https://arxiv.org/abs/1903.01843 PoC: https://github.com/HexHive/SMoTherSpectre

Let me break that down for you: it's similar to Meltdown/Spectre but uses a technique that doesn't involve evaluating "untrusted code".

While I'm on a rant, it annoys me that I might have to retire my laptop in a year or two, even though the hardware is still working fine and dandy, just because even #FreeCode software seems to require more and more hardware power over time to do basically the same tasks. When I bought this laptop in 2010, it could run perfectly good voice and video calls over Skype on Windows XP! We must stop treating complex electronics as disposables.

@strypey Instead of a part-of-Chromium-browser-to-every-app such as this one whose software freedom status was unknown (last debate/check I had was in 2018) according to https://directory.fsf.org/ , I foster #XMPP for instant communication, see https://libreplanet.org/wiki/XMPP . #Chromium

@strypey I think they are confusing #Commons (physical only) with #AntiCommons (research result, its sources; and also functional data, all of which can be stored digitally).

#GNU #Linux-libre #Freed-ora builds in the f31 repository have .fc30. in their release names, but that's just a buildroot glitch. they have been separate builds from those in the f30 repository, even with the same NVR, since 5.0-rc8 -

I dislike the term "slave" for "CI build worker". My own CI software uses "worker" instead, but a lot of CI software seems to be stuck in the offensive nomenclature.

According to the organisers 2.000 people attended the #saveyourinternet protest in Berlin today! And I’m happy seeing so many teenagers, school students and people in the twenties like me here. Especially since conservatives (the CDU is Germany’s conservative center-right party) always claim that they’re not interested in politics & that epically backfired at them today^^

Anyone have a proposal for more ethical, #FreeCode/ #OpenSource approaches to search and discovery on the net? The EU Next Generation Internet project might fund it to the tune of 5000 to 50,000 Euros. Application deadline is April 1, 2019:

I can't watch this #NZOnAir funded documentary, produced by public broadcaster #RadioNZ, because it's on YouTube, which is blocked in China. How annoying:
http://shorthand.radionz.co.nz/alienweaponry/index.htmlHey RadioNZ, I have no objection to you putting your stuff on YT so it's available to the audience who choose to use that platform, but how about setting up a #PeerTube server to put all your video content on so it's not compulsory to use YT to watch it?

A request to founders of #FreeCode projects; if you decide to abandon a project, please make that clear on all the project's communication channels (ideally before you go dark). It would be great to know if you are ceasing development due to a) inadequate time, b) change in personal circumstances (eg job loss), c) loss of motivation, d) redirecting energy to support another project doing a similar thing (which one?)/ other projects in general (which ones?).
