Some feedback to my talk about Racket and Guile experiences is maybe I didn't acknowledge enough how much Guile is growing right now, and how projects like Mes and Guix and etc are actually very much so helping the Guile community grow in all the right ways. I agree with that!

The #Huawei debate falls too short. Security and trust can only be established by
1) releasing the code of critical infrastructure as #FreeSoftware and
2) implementing measures to verify code integrity.A simple ban or secret audit won't help.

Just read that stabbot on Reddit now uploads to PeerTube instead of gfycat (stabbot is a bot that stabilizes shaky videos) ☺️

Racket's community really ought to decide, once and for all, whether or not sxml is the "official" sexp xml format or if xexpr is. (Hint: since nobody else uses xexpr, the right decision is sxml)

Uncomfortable as I am with military metaphors (which are all too common in activist circles), things like gOogleDocs are not the 'tools of the enemy', but their weapons. Choosing to use them is more like shooting ourselves with the guns of the enemy, than it is like using their tools. Their tools of the enemy are all the things we *don't* have access to, like the source code of the goOgle search algorithms, or the user data they use to train their machine translation algorithms.

“Fellows will have the opportunity to work at public interest organizations at the forefront of debates on broadband and access policy, content regulation, copyright and creativity, consumer privacy, open government, government surveillance, data security, data innovation, free expression and more.”
I wonder how many Google Public Policy Fellows will be critical of Google.
They don’t have to explicitly forbid anything. The stipend alone is enough. Once you’re sponsored by the Goog are you really going to bite the hand that feeds?
This is one of the ways that influence works.

I'm bothered by people saying we leave people behind with all the latest webdev tech trends.
It's actually still possible to build webpages like 15 years ago. And we've seen Flash trends, skeuomorphism trends, all kind of them.
It's trends, you don't have to actually follow them if you want (hey, it's actually the same issue for people to learn frameworks and not languages).
All of that will pass eventually.

Hey fediverse admins, have you made sure your instance is being counted by https://the-federation.info/ ? I love being able to respond with that stats site URL when people say "nobody uses federated social networks" elsewhere on the web :) It now counts nodes running any one of 36 server apps, across 9 federation protocols, including #OStatus, and #ActivityPub, reporting about 2 1/2 million users.

Also, GH use "MIT" for everything and died as an independent company, while these aforementioned companies who use #copyleft licenses are still afloat. Take note.
