Followed a link to an earlier article where @enkiv2 shares this thought about a conference experience in 2008:
"... in the community at the intersection of tech and social justice, the political ramifications of fake news on social media was old news ten years ago."
I wonder if now is the time to approach Stuff and other news orgs and ask if they'd like their own fediverse instance, under their own domain?
NZ news site Stuff.co.nz has decided to stop publishing their news content on FarceBook:

About time.
spoiler: it removed two heads and I got killed by the other 23
lost one of my best characters by being a doof, no other reason
I just had to test "how bad would it be if I tried to whack the lernean hydra with this flaming axe" didn't I
The "non-commercial" (NC) option in the Creative Commons suite of licenses introduces more confusion than it eliminates. I wrote a short essay to sum up the main problem, as I see it. This core problem can get lost in discussion of more technical issues. I'm hoping this short statement will be useful to share with well-intentioned copyright owners considering NC. But this "first draft" could probably use your edits or comments! https://freedomdefined.org/The_non-commercial_provision_obfuscates_intent
@dym @sir One note is that #Git isn't a #GNU project and if by purism you mean "one tool to do one thing and be the best at it", this is related to #Unix #philosophy and, while #GNU's ideas emerged from it in order to replace Unix, GNU is Not Unix (GNU), and so doesn't need to follow that philosophy.
@dym @sir One has to keep in mind that #Git was never designed to be used without #email (and it's rare to see any revision control system that isn't based on email). Of course, new workflows are welcome, but many projects don't provide ways to send stuff by email for unregistered users of a given repository host and don't provide in the hosted files a way to contact head of the project by email so to send suggestions or issues.
#Yggdrasil protip:
maybe check that your SSH authentication is secure before letting your computer be accessed by any rando.
"Furthermore, even without the [security] bugs, JavaScript is increasingly being used in ways that are fundamentally user-hostile – ranging from The Pirate Bay’s non-consensual cryptocurrency mining to advertising companies’ intrusive tracking of users across the web."

I will probably let links partially update their webpage like Intercooler.js & HTMX allow! Plenty of precedence for that...
The Dutch ministry of justice paid for a #privacy test of Office 365, finding a series of issues. Just one of these: 6 different companies receive user data including file names, without even a privacy policy.

@codesections no no no, the whole point of source code is for it to be readable and editable by humans, and the whole point of zero-width spaces is to *not* be visible to humans
@LovesTha @alcinnz As far as I can see, they can be presented as countermeasure to the "#security through obscurity" (e.i.: no #transparency) or, better yet, "through lack of freedom of the software" (i.e.: not #FreeSoftware / #FreeSW, which aims for more than transparency, but for the user to exercise control over their own environment, according to the capability-based approach to political #philosophy ). One improvement would be to require approval of each release in https://directory.fsf.org .
@humanetech @strypey Indeed, I agree with you.
