Also, this is an example of what can happen when we normalize the idea of blocking groups of people from otherwise neutral technical platforms for political reasons. Which is why I've been consistently arguing against #Tusky developers' decision to block a certain domain name in their #Mastodon app, despite sympathizing with their political motivations for doing so.

Remember when a bunch of us were lamenting the end of #GitHub as a (somewhat) neutral development platform for #FreeCode development, after it got bought by #McSoft, and lots of people were trying to tell us it was fine? Now they're enforcing racist trade sanctions on behalf of the US government:

Now I'm not one to say I told you so, but it's even clearer now how important code forge federation projects like #ForgeFed and #SourceHut are.

A few weeks ago I posted here that the #decentralized blogging platform @PlumeDev had some of its right-to-left (RTL) rendering issues fixed by @ahangarha. I myself had also fixed many little CSS issues related to #RTL for @Mastodon in the past.

Well, expect such kinds of things to happen less often in the future, since #GitHub has mass-blocked many accounts of Iranians* at various levels; This applies not only to Iranian residents, but also sometimes to Iranians living abroad.

* And not only for #Iran, but also for #Cuba, #Syria, #NorthKorea, and #Crimea.

At a recent meeting where Min of Ed staffers were present, between sessions I heard them talk about wanting to do a "what is blockchain" course... *sigh*. I told them that blockchain was the least of their worries. It's definitely mostly hype. Same with AI. The Min of Ed would do better by giving staff enough tools to understand how their tech policies are needlessly making a couple generations of NZ learners hostages of monopolistic foreign proprietary software corporate...

I've done something to my left hip/leg area. I'm not sure about the what/when/how but it wow does it hurt. I'll try some rest along with hot/cold therapy to see if it helps.
