Yesterday I released Converse 10.0.0

Converse is a web-based #XMPP client.
The UI is all web components done with https://lit.dev
There's an Electron version that will be updated to 10.0.0 soon and a Tauri version.
Tauri is a Rust-based Electron alternative.
Converse-Tauri is the first XMPP client that supports QUICK, via xmpp-proxy from @moparisthebest

Last week I made a new major release for Converse.
The biggest change is that the UI is now rendered entirely via declarative web components.
I've written a blog post highlighting some of the more notable changes in this release.

I'm at the Berlin #XMPP sprint, working on improving OMEMO support for Converse.js.
There are over 20 people here and we're testing OMEMO encryption interoperability across 12 different clients.

Back in the GTalk days, you could talk to your entire Google contacts list via federated XMPP.
So even back then I had way more contacts on XMPP than GNUSocial or Identica.
Google played a large role in killing off XMPP usage and the day they announced sunsetting GTalk was when I realized they're just another embrace-extend-extinguish monopolist.
Society needs self-hostable, scalable and functional alternatives to surveillance capitalist systems of manipulation and censorship.

That's a problem with you not having friends on XMPP, not with XMPP itself.
I have most of my family on XMPP (mostly due to my awesome wife getting them to switch) and then about 100 other contacts.
