Hello new followers, its been a month since I've returned to the fediverse and I want to thank you for all the feedback and support you have given for the federated instagram project and GNU/Social ActivityPub plugin. I think this will be a great summer!

Working on the landing page.

I thought making a federated instagram would be an easy task, its taking longer than I thought because of all the small and expected features. It can't launch without an admin dashboard for example.

I'm stoked that jpegoptim and aspect ratio resizing can turn a 12.4mb unsplash image into just 214kb. I know file storage is a big concern for instance admins.

If an image exceeds a threshold, it will get optimized (EXIF is scrubbed from every image).

Before: 12mb
After: 7.5mb (without resizing)

I know PHP gets a lot of hate, but modern PHP is pretty cool.

Thanks for all the feedback, I will allow admins to block other instances to prevent spam and other malicious activity.

Should blocking other instances be possible? I'm on the fence, I think the user should have the option to block words, hashtags, users and a whole instance but should an admin be able to block another instance? Feedback appreciated.

I'm really glad instagram made it so easy to import. I'm almost done instagram import support. Will support other services after launch!

A federated soundcloud would be awesome. If only I had more time I would finish this old project.

Every action has a javascript-free fallback. I have nothing against js myself, but accessibility is important.

@xosem Nope, I wrote it from scratch. It will federate with gnu social instances though.
