The next release, Funkwhale 1.0, will drop compatibility with Python 3.5, which is the version installed on Debian 9.
We'll be officially removing some compatibility tweaks for Python 3.5 on the develop branch (0.21 and 0.21.x hotfixes won't be affected).
If your pod run on develop and debian 9, we recommend upgrading to debian 10, which includes Python 3.7. You will also need to recreate your virtualenv (https://docs.funkwhale.audio/installation/debian.html#python-dependencies).
If you run on another OS, ensure `python3 --version` returns 3.6 or higher.
If you run Funkwhale using Docker, you can safely ignore this ;)
This is it, after 6 months of work, #Funkwhale 0.21 is now officially published 🎉
Have a look at https://blog.funkwhale.audio/~/Announcements/blog-post-week-2020-17-funkwhale-0.21-is-out/ for a quick summary of the changes included in this release, or dive into the full changelog ;)

It came to our attention recently that the account @\funkwhale@mastodon.uno was spreading misinformation about the project, and our funding in particular. They've also published hostile posts concerning some members of our collective.
This happens after we reached out to them multiple times in february to ask them to respect the guidelines we put in place for reusing our assets (https://funkwhale.audio/en_US/logos), and after they setup multiple social media pages by simply copy-pasting content from our website, which could be seen as a way to impersonate us, or at least to create confusion.
As a result, we have decided to block them, as well as the Funkwhale pod funkwhale.it they manage, from all our spaces and the pods we host.
Funkwhale.it is not affiliated with our project or collective, in any way.
So, looks like #Funkwhale channels and podcasts will be compatible with #Friendica!

You can expect this to work when their 2019-03 release is out!
Hey there!
We're almost ready to release Funkwhale 0.20 and we've pushed the first release candidate, 0.20.0-rc1. If you want to help polishing this release, you can upgrade your #Funkwhale pod to use this release and report any bug you encounter.
You can learn more at https://governance.funkwhale.audio/d/2Dg5G0If/0-20-release-incoming- and access the full changelog at https://dev.funkwhale.audio/funkwhale/funkwhale/-/tags/0.20.0-rc1
If everything goes well, we're planning for a final release during the first week of October 🎉
Thank you for your help!
Hey there!
Among other things you can do to help the project, you can help us review the work being done by other contributors.
This is incredibly helpful to increase the quality of contributions, and it's also a good way to understand better how #Funkwhale works internally while improving your own skills, such as programming (Python, Javascript), webdesign, REST APIs, documentation and writing, databases, sysadmin, ansible, docker, automation, etc.
---
It's open to anyone, and you don't have to commit on anything: if you are interested, create an account on https://dev.funkwhale.audio and send me a message with your username and your areas of interest and I'll add you to the corresponding groups.
If, for any reason you want to stop, you can leave the groups on your own (or ask me to remove you).
---
When someone submits a contribution and want some reviews, they'll simply mention the corresponding groups. This is where you receive a notification.
Click the link, read the contribution and post one or more comments, if you have any:
- Questions (even, and *especially* questions that might sound silly)
- Improvements suggestions
- Proof-reading
- Feedback
- Testing
If you have nothing to say, but want to let the contributor know you reviewd their work, you can also leave a thumb up.
Literally *any* of the above helps!
You don't have to review everything that is sent your way, and are also free to chose which contributions you are comfortable reviewing.
Thank you so much for your help!
Hello #Fediverse!
Now that we have our collective, bank account and donation system setup, we're also investigating alternative #funding options.
Nobody in our team seem to have experience with grants/sponsorships, so if you have experience with these, or know some grants/organizations we should look into, would you mind getting in touch?
(No forum topic listed, this is currently an internal team discussion)
Thank you very much, #BoostsAppreciated!
Someone recently started to work on a native (as in: not based on Subsonic) android app for #Funkwhale. They are looking for feedback and ideas, so feel free to reach out on the corresponding discussion!
