Here is a privacy thing that seems strange to me.

I buy something from an online store. The connection is https. Secure server. We protect your privacy, says the website. Great!

Once I've placed my order, they send complete details of my order to me by regular email. Unencrypted. The confirmation email includes my name, address, payment method, and the list of what I bought.

How is that protecting my privacy, ffs? And there is no way to opt out of this.

We were out of eggs this morning, so I went to the place that sells eggs. It is also a restaurant, and there, on the patio, a friend was having breakfast. So I joined my friend, and we dined together.

This is what I like about living in a small community: even if I don't plan social things, I wind up having a social life as I go about my day, because I keep running into people I know.

In my everyday world, I am the one most bothered by privacy and security issues, by the annoying things that the bad social networks do, etc. So when it comes to these topics, I am the grumpiest one.

Here on Mastodon there are people who are even more annoyed by these things. So I am no longer the grumpiest one!
