How Alfred Hitchcock used rear-screen projection to create the illusion of a plane crash for the film "Foreign Correspondent" (1940).
The rear-screen was made of rice paper. Water was forced down a chute and through the paper screen to simulate the plane hitting the water.
Amazing!
