A strange creature from the margin of an illuminated manuscript. It has blue legs, a little tail, a long... possibly neck, with a brown very simplified skull on the end, and the butt has a red face with hair around the edges and an open mouth with a tongue poking out.

   I've been trawling through images of old illuminated manuscripts, looking at the border designs, the big illustrated first letters, the weird animals in the borders... There are so many snails! What was their obsession with snail-creatures? Chicken snails, hedgehog snails, bird snails, cat snails, goat snails, even man-snails.

   And then there's this. XD
