94 yrs ago, over 1,000 striking banana workers were gunned down while picketing outside the gates of the United Fruit Company (Chiquita) in Santa Marta, Colombia.

The strikers' demands included a 6-day work week, payment with money rather than company coupons, compensation for work accidents, and a wage increase for workers earning less than 100 pesos/month.

U.S. Ambassador Jefferson Caffery later told Washington he was "honored" to report the massacre.
