The grey top of a large bank of lead-acid cells forming a battery with thick black interconnectors. There are 12 cells for the 24v battery. It's hard to tell from the pics, but the cells are tall, at knee height. Each cell weighs 55kg.

    The battery still has enough charge for 2-3 days, taking us to the next gale due tomorrow night. But in these temperatures, I thought it would pay, at this early stage of the battery's life, to give them a booster charge on the generator today.
