A stone circle known as the nine maidens, on Belstone Common. Behind on the skyline (rapidly disappearing in rain clouds) is Belstone Tor (main tor to the right, another outcrop to the left). The moor grass is yellow-green with brighter green of gorse bushes. The sky is very grey!

The nine maidens stone circle with Belstone Tor behind - looking very ‘atmospheric’. I walked up the East Okement river & back before as a side quest to my slow way walk. Today is the 18th anniversary of my mum’s passing & Belstone holds special meaning so I always try to get up there around this time. It’s also a beautiful walk, rain or shine. The ancient woodland of the East Okement valley provides shelter & is always full of bird-life - I saw a treecreeper, goldcrests & spotted flycatchers
