Voyager 2’s black and white view of the crescents of Neptune and Triton as it sailed off after nearest approach. The crescent of Neptue dominates the image, curving down from the upper left corner to near the center of the image. Just enough of it is illuminated to give a sense of the planet’s spherical shape. In the foreground, but much smaller, is the crescent of Triton.

Three days after its flyby, Voyager 2 looked back for this gorgeous image of a crescent Neptune and Triton. Triton, much smaller than Neptune, is in the foreground.
