TLDR; #Meta (formerly #Facebook) and also the owner of Threads, #Instagram and #WhatsApp, is a big tech multinational that steals their data and fuck with their privacy. Therefore the community of your Mastodon server decided that they don't want Meta to steal their data and fuck with their privacy as well. If it are anti-capitalist friends, you can also tell them that capitalists shouldn't own your online (just as your offline) social life. They probably say that they already know this, but that the network effect keeps them over there. Better not push it from there any further. Some people are more sensitive for neoliberalism than others. 🤷🏻 Or you can move to mastodon.social. 🤔
