1. Every morning it does not take long to be surrounded by wool. Near the entrance to the middle field, close to the stables, the ground is rather churned up and muddy, although the mud is drying out a bit now due to not having had any rain for a few days, by some rare British miracle. Atop the mud there are three sheep closing in, ears vectored towards me, converging apace, knowing that surrounding me can only bring them fuss, cuddles and discs. From left to right they are: Lucky, Skippy and Brambles.

  1. Meanwhile Panda expertly deploys the face of where's-my-biscuit. He is pointing directly towards me with an upturned face and a look that clearly says "where's my biscuit" and also "and then I'd like some cuddles please". People think that sheep don't have expressive faces but clearly they do. His wool is soft and fluffy, his muzzle is spotty, his little ears are protruding from a fleece that grows fluffier by the day, and he is clearly asking where his biscuit is.

  The rivals.

  1. Like the world's longest pillow fight the rivalry between Skippy and Brambles has rumbled on for months now. Years if you count the occasional truce and hiatus. Here they are again, Skippy behind facing right and Brambles in front facing left. Brambles' head bears the signs of previous skull-based altercations; pink patches of skin are visible where combat-related lesions are healing. You can't quite see it in the picture but Skippy is waving his front hoof in the manner of bosses the world over.
