To my surprise, a commercial port of the 90s shareware hit Terminal Velocity got released today:

In the far future, armadas from surrounding systems have suddenly waged war on Earth. You are a pilot from the Ares Squadron, flying the fastest, most dangerous crafts ever made. You're outgunned, outmanned, and strapped into a flying coffin.

@dosnostalgic I played it once, someone left the CD in a machine at work some 25 years ago.

@dosnostalgic I’d love to see this, Fury^3, and Hellbender in a 3 game bundle that runs under modern systems (bonus points if it can run under Proton).

@dosnostalgic still playing the original one with Dosbox. I don’t get what are the improvements of this version ?

@voxel Hellbender was a sequel to Fury³, which was essentially ab asset swap of Terminal Velocity published by Microsoft for Windows 95.

@dosnostalgic was there a relationship between this and Hellbender? I got demos of both at the same time but remember enjoying Hellbender more, (probably because of Gillian Anderson talking to me). So in my mind they were always linked

@dosnostalgic Ooh, apparently they've just given it for free to anybody that owned the original game on Steam (in particular anybody who owned the Apogee Software bundle from years ago). Well that saves me 12 bucks!

@wildweasel Actually of looks like I'm not one of those. My original game got renamed to "Terminal Velocity: Legacy" and that's about it.

@wildweasel You must have gotten it somewhere else. I've now read the official statement, and yes, 3D Realms Anthology customers don't get the upgrade.

@dosnostalgic Huh that's really weird. All I know is I was ready to pay money for it and it was just already there. 🤔
