    For work I wrote about Chilean financial issues, but when I'm in #Chile, I try to deepen my familiarity with the land and its living things. Here are a few observations from the last few days. First, photos from the bed of the Mapocho river in eastern Santiago.

    Plant bugs on wild manyflower tobacco (Nicotiana acuminata)

    Star thistle (Centaurea)

    Argentine ants (Linepithema humile) on willow (Salix alba)

    Swamp smartweed (Persicaria hydropiperoides)

      More living things in #Chile

      Four-speckled hoverfly captured in flight (Dioprosopa clavata)

      Flower fly doing flower fly stuff (Syrphus shorae, first time I've seen this one)

      Gorgeous butterfly (Love me a Leptotes trigemmatus)

      Lizard lizarding (Liolaemus tenuis)

      (Look I even notice vertebrates at times!)

      All on Cerro San Cristobal, Santiago

      But the real catch of the day was this #gall on a caven thorn tree. I don't see it identified anywhere.
