One thing that I love about #mastodon and the fediverse is that #algorithms don’t stop me from being exposed to toots in other languages. I have to try and parse what a toot is saying and use a translation service and this causes me to learn and be exposed to that language. This is immersion, which is the best way to acquire language skills. For too long, people in the US have been shielded from #multilingualism as if it’s a burden. It’s actually a standard everywhere but here.
