Why does Quake 2 on Steam list November 11th of 1997 as the release date? The files on the original CD are from November 30th, and the "canonical" US release date has been December 9th (although I'm not sure how, seeing how it's only a week away from master)

Last minute release notes DOC file from the original Quake 2 CD has a date of 11/28, and one of the custom configs (Thresh's WASD config, probably the first WASD scheme to be officially endorsed) included in the PAK0.PAK file is dated 11/26.

@dosnostalgic If you mean WASD altogther, Dark Castle on the Mac used it in 1986! I discovered this recently: https://www.instagram.com/p/CwimGbpB0_E/

MS-DOS Floppy on Instagram: "Dark Castle (1986). A precision platformer with a unique new control scheme - you move around with WASD and throw rocks aimed with the mouse. The internet is full of stories about this game, people spending hours honing their platforming and aiming skills to get past a tricky bit to reach the next screen. Dark Castle was a hugely popular game and got mostly inferior ports to other systems which didn't offer the same amount of control or graphical resolution. This is one game probably best on the Mac (at least until the Amiga port arrived?). Interestingly, the developers of this game would later go on to co-found Macromedia and create Flash. . #1986 #darkcastle #siliconbeachsoftware #platformgame #platformer #wasd #macromedia #flash #mac #classicmac #macclassic #macgaming #msdos #msdosgames #dosgames #dosgaming #retrogames #retrogaming #retrocollectiveaustralia"

@suprjami No, I don't mean that. I knew of this fact because people have been bringing it up in the WASD-in-fps discussion for over a decade now, even though it doesn't belong in there. 😄
