   Austrian Physicist Lise Meitner died #OTD in 1968.

   She shared the Enrico Fermi Award (1966) with the chemists Otto Hahn and Fritz Strassmann for their joint research that led to the discovery of uranium fission. Despite her crucial role in its discovery, Meitner was excluded from the 1944 Nobel Prize in Chemistry awarded to Hahn. Meitner's exclusion from the Nobel Prize remains controversial. However, her contributions to physics are undeniable.

     Science makes people reach selflessly for truth and objectivity; it teaches people to accept reality, with wonder and admiration, not to mention the deep awe and joy that the natural order of things brings to the true scientist. Life need not be easy, provided only that it is not empty.
