I was hoping that after a couple of years of Covid wearing masks if one absolutely *had to* go out in public while feeling unwell would be normalized. No such luck. Meanwhile we have two dozen cases of Covid at my work right now. FML

Anatoly Shashkin💾 (dosnostalgic@mastodon.social@mastodon.social)'s status on Wednesday, 27-Dec-2023 15:29:07 UTC Anatoly Shashkin💾 I already gave up hope that some day Americans will stop going to work sick. A big cultural and economic shift has to happen for that, and I really don't see either happening any time soon.

Because what's worse than one person being sick? Four, and then sixteen, etc.

Couple months ago I had a coworker coughing, sneezing and sniffling for multiple days in a row so I told him in a stern way that it's not a good thing to come to work sick and he'd better consider working from home.
Reply: "But I'm not sick ?"
Oh FFS. -

In Belgium we have paid sick leave but many people still come to work as long as they're physically capable and not mortally sick.
Sometimes out of peer pressure, "working hero" cult status, feeling irreplaceable or fear for (unlawful) reprisals.
Not only do they have close to no productivity, they also turn the office in a biohazard zone for the rest.
Who might be high risk patients like myself.
I had hoped the COVID common sense of staying home would stick, but alas 😞 -

Allergy to common sense I'd think, if they bother to drag their sick ass to work. And unlike the opinion of the gvs anarchist/covidiot there is a significant difference in between coming to work seriously ill or with a running nose.
