    I'm flying to Europe with a layover in São Miguel, a pretty island in the Atlantic Ocean 🤩

      Why is this a thing? A tree wrapped in knit things... I don't even know what they're called, but they're cool 😅

      The island was discovered by Portugal in the 15th century. Ponta Delgada is the largest city, and features a variety of churches and historic buildings.

      @Tanuki I never visited the mainland Portugal. Which city would you recommend for a future 1-day layover, Porto or Lisbon?

      @schreiblehrling ah yes, I just asked #ChatGPT and got this answer:

      This is an example of yarn bombing, a type of street art that uses colorful displays of knitted or crocheted yarn or fiber rather than paint or chalk. It's wrapped around the trunk of a tree, creating a patchwork of different designs and colors. Yarn bombing is often used to add a touch of whimsy and vibrancy to urban environments.

      @codewiz It’s „yarn bombing“ (EN) or „Guerilla Knitting“ (DE). And I think it’s lovely.

      1. Yarn bombing
        Yarn bombing (or yarnbombing) is a type of graffiti or street art that employs colourful displays of knitted or crocheted yarn or fibre rather than paint or chalk. It is also called wool bombing, yarn storming, guerrilla knitting, kniffiti, urban knitting, or graffiti knitting. Motivation While other forms of graffiti may be expressive, decorative, territorial, socio-political commentary, advertising or vandalism, yarn bombing was initially almost exclusively about reclaiming and personalizing sterile or cold public places. It has since developed with groups graffiti knitting and crocheting worldwide, each with their own agendas and public graffiti knitting projects being run.According to Manuela Farinosi and Leopoldina Fortunati, yarn bombing has become synonymous with the current feminist movement due in part to the reclamation of the traditionally feminine arts of knitting and/or crocheting to partake in the traditionally masculine and male-dominated graffiti scene. The women and girls who make up the yarn bombing subculture are diverse in...

      I went on a short hike to Miradouro da Boca do Inferno. Hopefully today it won't be wrapped in a thick mist, as the tourist guides warned.

      The Lagoa das Sete Cidades as seen from the Miradouro da Boca do Inferno 🤩

      It's a lucky day without a lot of fog hiding this stunning view.

      Today is kinda rainy, so I went to Furnas to check the famous thermal baths ♨️

      My first stop is Parque Terra Nostra. This huge pool is deep enough for swimming.

      The iron-enriched water doesn't smell bad or irritate the eyes, but it sure stains skin and towels. Good thing I came with dark clothes.
