Mozilla’s system only measures the success rate of ads—it doesn’t help companies target those ads—and it’s less susceptible to abuse, EFF’s Lena Cohen told @FastCompany. “It’s much more privacy-preserving than Google’s version of the same feature.” https://www.fastcompany.com/91167564/mozilla-wants-you-to-love-firefox-again

@eff they could’ve handled this so much better by just putting a checkbox in the window that pops up after an upgrade saying, “Enable this feature so that we can get rid of tracking cookies altogether”

@eff @FastCompany What the fuck is wrong with you!? Every damn penny I ever donated to you all has been a waste if this is the kind of hot trash you support.

@eff @FastCompany Defaulting to opt-out will always be poor form with features like these. Everyone knows it, deep down. It was inappropriate, and leaders in Mozilla have been unwilling to listen *sincerely* to complaints. (Case in point here on Mastodon: https://mastodon.social/@neonharbinger/112785168217396831) Mozilla clearly think it's the users who are in the wrong, who should expect their consent to be assumed when Mozilla thinks they should consent.
