  ‎Translating Palestine فلسطين‎ on Instagram‎: "After more than four decades in Syrian regime prisons, Jerusalemite Walid Barakat, originally from the village of Nabi Samwil northwest of Jerusalem, was freed and reunited with his family in Jordan. Barakat, who entered prison at the age of 25, emerged as an elderly man without any official documents proving his identity. Currently, Barakat is working on settling his legal status and obtaining new identification papers. His nephew, Khalil Barakat, who resides in Jordan, shared that he received a call from border security on Sunday, December 8, informing him that Walid had reached the Jordanian-Syrian border after his release. Khalil added that Walid spent 14 years in solitary confinement, and for years, the family didn’t know his whereabouts, unsure if he was detained in Syria, Turkey, or Lebanon, until his name appeared in 1996 on a list of Palestinian detainees in Syrian prisons through efforts by international human rights organizations. بعد أكثر من أربعة عقود في سجون النظام السوري، تحرر المقدسي وليد بركات، الذي ينحدر من قرية النبي صموئيل شمال غرب القدس، والتقى بأهله في المملكة الأردنية الهاشمية كهلاً بعدما دخل السجن شابًا في الخامسة والعشرين من عمره. خرج وليد دون أي وثائق تثبت هويته، ويعمل حاليًا على ترتيب وضعه القانوني واستخراج أوراق رسمية جديدة. وقال ابن شقيقته خليل بركات، المقيم في الأردن، إنه تلقى يوم الأحد 8 ديسمبر/كانون الأول اتصالًا من أمن الحدود يفيد بوجود وليد لديهم بعد وصوله إلى الحدود السورية الأردنية عقب الإفراج عنه. وأضاف خليل أن وليد قضى 14 عامًا في الحبس الانفرادي، ولم تكن العائلة تعرف مكانه بدقة؛ هل هو في سوريا أم تركيا أم لبنان، حتى ظهر اسمه عام 1996 ضمن قائمة المعتقلين الفلسطينيين في السجون السورية من خلال جهود بذلتها مؤسسات حقوق الإنسان الدولية.
