@neon @lambadalambda because posts are public (not sure about the mastodon private toot thing though) people can just jump in and hence there's no culture going "you can only talk with me if we're mutual follows" or anything like that, which stifles conversation

@lambadalambda @neon well i kinda stopped using twkn that much since 10 months ago after that SLC refugee wave came, because i refuse to mute anyone who isn't a bot
like, for example, axeman or penny might still say interesting things once in a while and you'll miss out on those if you just outright mute them right

@neon @lambadalambda i heard twitter had a public timeline a decade ago or something. now that they don't, yeah it tends to cluster their people around celebs, and making people act like brands
meanwhile, over here the idea of "fame" on a backwater social network held together with duct tape is just laughable

@lambadalambda @hakui @neon I feel like on twitter I'd be posting content for my followers, not expecting interaction but just one way flow of information from those with followers to those following. here it's more about actual discussion with other users (apart from sandboxing and diaspora). most people I interact with here I'd probably never even find on twåtter due to the vertical nature.
