the encroachment of the personal into the wired is something I really hate too. In a good community (to me), people share their opinions and their thoughts and experiences, but they do not attempt to build an identity around it. it's less "look at me" and more "heres this funny thing that happened the other day". one is directed inwards, the other is directed towards an audience that might enjoy it. We all post inane shit about ourselves, but at least anonymous knows nobody gives a shit that they took their dog out for a walk.
Also, insults aren't taken personally and nobody is genuinely hurt because everybody has the ability to dissapear, come back and try again. There's also nothing stopping you from admitting that you're wrong since nobody cares if you're embarrassed or disgraced or whatever.
I'm not advocating total 2ch style anonimity, since that has its own problems but more of a paradigm shift in the users look at internet posting. No more celebrities, no more tryhards, just people making shit because others might be amused by it.
