@drwho @TheMysteriousEm I think of that as clusterizable, not federated. In a distributed network like bittorrent, each user of the network receives and sends data. In a centralized net, each user can only talk to the server(s) (in this case, the freenode cluster), and in a federated network, each user can chose to host an instance to store information, but maintains communication with the whole network.
