   RMS talked about that in an interview I listened too. You don't need to become extremely popular to be successful. The fediverse connected me with more like-minded people than anything else, that's already a big success for me. I don't care if it replaces twitter.

     @lain "replaces Twitter" --> suffers from insane user-growth, necessitating VC funding and public stock issuance, with consequent need to turn a profit.
     
     I care enough that I don't want VC funding and its related ills.
     
     It is bad enough that some fediverse devs already feel the need to cater to their funders.
