   the reason gs users freaked out over rumors of future mastodon incompatibility, despite (largely) hating mastodon users, is because there is a perception that ostatus and gs were only used by mastodon to fake a userbase long enough to get established.

     @moonman From another conversation I had:

     "The accusation is that Gargron used an existing protocol to have instant activity on his application, and in some sense he did. It made it seem populated. I think that's a big part of why there weren't Local Timelines for a while, too.

     GS resents that someone who doesn't share their ideals came in and "capitalized" (as one can with social capital, anyway) on their community."
