     @leosammallahti @cjd can users and branches on your server talk to users and branches on my server, and vice-versa? If so, it's federated.

     @cjd @leosammallahti One is to have a shared namespace across all servers. One /politics that users from any compatible server can join

     @cjd @leosammallahti the other way, as you say, would be to have a federated timeline, across servers, for all the groups with the same name

     @cjd @leosammallahti what user experience are you aiming for? Do you want many branches named /politics (1 per server) or just one big one?
