The fact that a government official was taking it seriously did not impress me at first. Governments and incompetence are not mutually exclusive, especially in the US. But then I thought - Pentagon surely employs all sorts of scientists who *could* come up with theories like "it was gas" or "it was a visual glitch on the radar", and they hadn't.

And given that US intelligence services have their nose in pretty much everything on Earth, it doesn't seem probable to me that these things are a product of another country's war arsenal.
But again, I'm talking plausibilities and probabilities and many assumptions here. Like trying to guess.
